Colchester and Milton High School Students Team up with Their Rotary Club To Participate in A Literacy Project for Local Children and Children In Nigeria

Halloween morning high school students from Milton and Colchester teamed together with the Colchester-Milton Rotary Club at the Eagles Club in Milton to read to children and serve pancakes.  Many children were in Halloween costumes and left the Eagles Club with books in hand that were donated from the community to give back to children who attended the event. The Milton Library offered arts and crafts and there was a costume competition. Close to $500 was raised by this event to help other students far from Vermont at the Community Primary School in Nduhuobokwe Uzoagba Ikeduru LGA, Imo State Nigeria. The school is in need of many repairs.  The school needs a new roof and the walls and windows are few.  The students need desks, books, and writing materials.

The Colchester-Milton Rotary Club has worked in cooperation with the Northern Vermont Rotary Clubs, Imo State Nigerian Rotary Clubs, and the Rotary Foundation Matching Grants to raise $40,000 toward the construction of the Village Communal Water Systems for the residents of the village.  The Milton High School students led by Connor Brisson and the Colchester High School students led by Alexandra Libstag were able to get fellow students involved in this literacy project and fundraiser.  We want to thank the Eagles Club for providing us with space where community service can touch students in our own backyard as well as a continent away.
