At our December 5th, 2024 meeting we celebrated the 90th birthday of one of our founding members Clinton Reichard. His actual birthday was on December 6th. Fun was had by all.

On November 21st, 2024 the Colchester Milton Rotary presented the Colchester Community Food Shelf and the Milton Family Community Center with checks totaling $2,452 from our Election Day Fill The Truck for the Food Shelf event.

With rising food costs the need has never been greater than right now. Every food shelf is reporting record numbers of families in need.

We will be collecting non-perishable food and monetary donations for the entire month of May.

100% of all food & funds donated will go to the Colchester Community Food Shelf, The Milton Family Community Center, and the Champlain Islands Food Shelf

$4,260 and over 875 Pounds of Food

Due to the wonderful generosity of our neighbors on Town Meeting Day, the Colchester-Milton Rotary collected a total of $4260 in cash, and over 875 pounds of food, which will be distributed to both the Colchester and Milton food banks.

The Colchester-Milton Rotary is committed to strengthening our community and helping to meet hospital and patient needs through blood donations. We urge community members to donate blood and help ensure that patients in local hospitals have a supply of blood ready and waiting before an emergency occurs. Be a hero on September 11

Like so many Vermonters, the Red Cross has been affected by the unprecedented storms this summer. They have had to cancel many drives due to sites being compromised or roads being impassable.

As a result, they are working diligently to prevent a blood shortage, but they need our help. The Colchester/Milton Rotary is partnering with the Red Cross to host a blood drive.

Helping Our Community

The Colchester Milton Rotary Club is dedicated to helping our community members address many local issues. Our Rotary Club area includes the towns of Colchester and Milton as well as South and North Hero Islands. As Fall approaches we realize that many of our neighbors in these areas may appreciate extra help around the house and yard.

Colchester Milton Rotary Celebrates the 4th of July

The Colchester-Milton Rotary celebrated the 4th of July alongside the Town of Colchester in the annual Colchester Parade. Along the parade route, we proudly distributed 1,500 American Flags to children, seniors, and Veterans, spreading a sense of patriotism and unity. A dedicated group supporting "Operation Flags for Heroes" marched alongside us, paying tribute to our beloved nation.

Rotary Raises $2,731 For Food Shelves

On June 15th, 2023 the Rotary Club of Colchester-Milton presented local food shelves with a check for $2,731.00 from the club’s annual Fill The Truck For The Food Shelf campaign along with 1,493 lbs of food.

Let’s Save Some Lives on May 22nd!

On May 22^nd between the hours of 10:00 am and 3:00 pm, we’ll roll up our sleeves and help save lives! The Colchester/Milton Rotary Club with the help of Our Lady Grace Catholic Church will proudly partner with the American Red Cross to hold what we expect to be the first of many blood drives. The Red Cross has over 135 years of experience providing humanitarian aid – including more than 75 years of supplying blood to those in need.

Milton High School (MHS) students Omar Moran & Lilly Noreault were this year's MHS recipients of the Rotary Youth Leadership Award (RYLA) in recognition of the completion of the RYLAcurriculum June 24 - 26, 2022.

Rotary Youth Leadership Awards aim to:

Demonstrate Rotary's respect and concern for youth
Enhance leadership skills and development for youth
Encourage leadership of youth by youth
Recognize youth who are rendering service to their community

Omar and Lilly are also members of the MHS Rotary Interact Club. Interact clubs bring together young people ages 12-18 to develop leadership skills while discovering the power of Service Above Self.

Operation Flags For Heroes 2022

As many of you have seen and commented favorably on, our Flags for Heroes displays are flying at locations in Colchester and Milton. We are celebrating our heroes - soldiers, medical personnel, teachers, community workers, and veterans - by displaying flags in their honor. Flags are displayed during holidays at Dick Mazza’s General Store in Mallets Bay, Charlebois Trucking in Milton, Dr. Hayes's Office at Severance Corners, and at 12 business sponsor locations.

Please help The Colchester-Milton Rotary ‘Fill The Truck’ with food for local families who need your support to be hunger-free in 2022.

A study by the Vermont Foodbank and Feeding America shows that 1 in 4 people, or an estimated 153,000 people, in Vermont turn to food shelves and meal service programs to feed themselves and their families. This includes 33,900 children and 26,010 seniors.

Congratulations to the MHS Interact Club

Congratulations to the Milton High School Rotary Interact Club for a successful winter gear drive. They held the drive in December and January and the winter gear is destined to go to the Refugee Resettlement Program via Paul Somerville, the pastor who spoke at our Veteran’s Day Flags for Heroes event.

CM Rotary Provides Lunch to Josh's House

On Thursday, January 11th The Colchester-Milton Rotary provided lunch to the approximate 30 Veterans of Josh's House. The lunch included several crockpot items along with brownies and cookies for dessert. Thanks to Leora Black for organizing and all those who prepared and delivered the food donations. Rotary Blood Drive Successful!

The Colchester-Milton Rotary club heard there was a significant blood shortage in Vermont and surrounding areas and decided to sponsor a Red Cross Blood drive on October 13, 2021, at the Colchester Meetinghouse on Main Street. 36 units of blood were collected including 8 first-time donors participating. These 36 units will help 108 patients!

Rotary Gleaning at the Intervale Center

Last Friday several members of the Colchester-Milton Rotary, friends, and family spent a couple of hours gleaning at the Intervale. What is gleaning you ask? According to Wikipedia "Gleaning is the act of collecting leftover crops from farmers' fields after they have been commercially harvested or on fields where it is not economically profitable to harvest." The Intervale Center distributes the gleaned vegetables to organizations that assist those who are food insecure.

Operation Flags For Heroes is Growing!

Operation Flags For Heroes has grown to 100 Flags at 3 locations in Milton and Colchester and raised over $6800 during the past year and now have 9 major sponsors. Our newest location is at the corner of Severance and Blakely Roads

The flags will be back as we are planning a major celebration for veteran’s which will be announced soon. Stay Tuned!

In Honor of Skip Smith

On August 14th we lost our beloved Rotarian Skip (Malcolm) Smith after a valiant battle against pancreatic cancer. Skip was an active member of the Colchester-Milton Rotary Club.

A memorial service was held on Saturday, September 26th to celebrate Skip's life. Following is a video slideshow and recollections of this spirit who touched all of our lives.

Flags For Heroes In The News

From News Channel 5: "Anyone driving through Mallets Bay in Colchester these days will immediately notice the dozens of American flags. Every flag is sponsored by a community member in honor of a local hero. A hero could be a veteran, front-line worker, or someone who's helped out during the pandemic. The project is called Operation Flags for Heroes. It's being put on by the Colchester-Milton Rotary Club. Organizers think seeing the flags every day means so much after such a tough year..."

Operation Flags For Heroes 2021

Operation Flags For Heroes officially kicks off on Memorial Day weekend this year. Memorial Day is always a wonderful day to honor our Veterans who have given so much to our country. And this year, in celebration of hopefully nearing the end of this difficult “Covid” period, it is also time to honor the essential workers including health care personnel, first responders, teachers and grocery and pharmacy employees. We all know someone who is a hero that should be honored.

Fill The Truck For The Food Shelf 2021

The Colchester-Milton Rotary's annual [Virtual] Fill The Truck For The Food Shelf 2021 starts May 1st!

Hunger in Vermont remains higher than at any point in recent history, including the 2009 Recession.

We will be collecting only monetary donations again this year (due to Covid) for the entire month of May. Last year our goal was $5,000 and thanks to our generous community we raised over $9,200 for the Colchester, Milton & Grand Isle food shelves. This year, due to continued critical need, we're setting the bar high at $10,000. See below for details and how to donate.

Milton HS Interact Club Recognized for Making a Difference

Milton High School Interact has been busy despite the COVID-19 virus and having to meet virtually since the start of the school year! MHS Interact is high school service club under the umbrella of the Colchester-Milton Rotary. It consists of students from all four years who want to make a difference in their world. They begin each weekly meeting with the Rotary Four Way Test: “Of the things we think, say or do; Is it the truth? Is it fair to all concerned? Will it build goodwill and better friendships? Will it be beneficial to all concerned?”. So far this year, they have donated food to the Milton Food Shelf, sent Thanksgiving meals for the MFCC food drive, and, for their international project, donated funds to Heifer International to purchase a goat, a flock of chicks, and extra money to reach places where it is most needed. Virtual meetings are a challenge, but these Milton High School students have met the challenge and represent the best of the next generation. They deserve a hearty “thank you”!

Masks to Milton

Milton Town Manager, Don Turner, and his assistant, Michaela Foody receiving 300 IN/95 masks donated by Colchester-Milton Rotary on February 16, 2021. These masks will be distributed for use among Milton Police, Fire and Rescue Departments to help meet their needs during this COVID-19 pandemic.

146 Food Baskets Delivered in Colchester

Thanks to ALL who helped make the 2020 Colchester Holiday Baskets program happen. As a result of your efforts, 146 families (29 Seniors), for a total of 286 adults and 252 children, had a better holiday with more food in their stomachs and pantries. Total items distributed include 6,380 food items, plus: mittens, gloves, hats, Beanie Babies, dental supplies, and $1,550 of gift cards. See more photos here.

Dr. H. Clinton Reichard receives a Major Donor Award

Dr. H. Clinton Reichard member of the Colchester-Milton Rotary Club has received a Major Donor Award for his contributions to The Rotary Foundation. Clinton was a founding member of the Club, which started in 1990.

MHS Interact Club Donates Food to MFCC

The Milton High School Interact Club and Colchester-Milton Rotary are donating eighteen bags to Milton Family Community Center to distribute to families for their Thanksgiving meal.

The Colchester-Milton Rotary Club donated to the Milton High School Interact Club for their Thanksgiving bag food donation that they are participating in with Milton High School Honor Society to give meals to the Milton Family Community Center.

Operation Flags For Heroes

The Colchester Milton Rotary Club is excited to announce that we are embarking on a project to recognize our community heroes with Operation Flags for Heroes. Our heroes include our soldiers, healthcare workers, school employees , fire and safety personnel, grocery store employees and community volunteers - all those essential to our daily living.

CM Rotary Paints Colchester Food Shelf

On Saturday, August 1st Ron Roberge, Ron Lewis, Todd Burgess, Dan Johnson, Kevin Endres and Bob Mohr and I (Sue Mohr) painted the front of the Colchester Food Shelf. Kevin delivered the lift with Stacey and Patrick, The others painted like crazy on the lift and two ladders, while Bob and I offered support and “expert” ground advice. It went quickly and relatively easily (easy for me to say since I was on the ground).
It really felt great to get out and do something to help our community, especially in these limiting times.

Milton Family Community Center Presented with $3,024 Check

On July 13th, 2020 the Rotary Club of Colchester-Milton presented the Milton Family Community Center (MFCC) with a check for $3,024.00 from the Club’s Fill The Truck For The Food Shelf campaign. Club member John Abry presented the check to Vikki Patterson the executive director of MFCC.

Grand Isle Food Shelf Presented with $1,343.00 Check

On July 14th, 2020 the Rotary Club of Colchester-Milton presented the Grand Isle Food Shelf with a check for $1,343.00 from the Club’s Fill The Truck For The Food Shelf campaign. Club member John Abry presented the check to Judy Ayers who runs the food shelf. Judy stated that ”We are very appreciative of the continued support of the Colchester-Milton Rotary club and this donation will help supply up to three months of food”

Colchester Food Shelf presented with $4,840.00 Check

On July 7th, 2020 the Rotary Club of Colchester-Milton presented the Colchester Community Food Shelf with a check for $4,840.00 from the Club’s Fill The Truck For The Food Shelf campaign. Club member John Abry presented the check to the president of the food shelf, Marcia Devino. Marcia stated that “We are extremely thankful for the continued support of the Colchester-Milton Rotary and this donation will supply a whole month worth of food supplies for the food shelf.”

State Rotary Clubs Pitch In (video)

BURLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) Vermont food banks have donations on the way thanks to Rotarian clubs around the Green Mountain State.

The Agency of Agriculture reached out to state Rotary clubs, looking for help with Dairy Recovery and Food Assistance Program efforts.

Our -Virtual - Fill The Truck For The Food Shelf 2020 was a HUGE success! Donations totaled $9,207.00 which was almost double our original goal. The volume of donations was truly amazing! The overwhelming support in this historical time of need has truly brought out the best in our community. We really can't thank you enough and our food shelves will truly appreciate your donations.

{Virtual} Fill The Truck For The Food Shelf 2020

Your help is needed now more than ever as food insecurity has risen 33% during the COVID-19 pandemic. This year we will be 'filling the truck' (virtually) with online donations.

According to a recent Vermont Business Magazine article "Food insecurity in Vermont has increased by one-third during the coronavirus pandemic, according to a statewide survey conducted by the University of Vermont at the end of March.

We had our first online meeting this week which worked quite well and will be meeting each Thursday at noon until further notice. 2019 Holiday Baskets Delivery Day

Colchester Milton Rotary Club receives Numerous Honors and Donates $28,000 Last Year

The Colchester Milton Rotary Club was named Club of the Year in its District, which is composed of 42 clubs from Quebec, Northern Vermont and New Hampshire. The Club also received five other awards during their district conference held in the spring. These awards recognized the achievements the Club made in the areas of membership growth, community service projects and other Rotary International criteria.

On the one-year anniversary of Tropical Storm Irene, the Rotary Districts serving Vermont (7850 & 7870) will present a large check – in both physical size and amount – to Southeastern Vermont Community Action (SEVCA) to kick off the long-term Irene Recovery effort funded by that grant. Dear Fellow Rotarians:

Happy Autumn! As the annual October event, "Making Strides Against Breast Cancer" approaches, we invite your participation for this high-visibility community event. We are excited to announce that Colchester-Milton Rotary Club is Making Strides on October 16, 2011.

Why are we walking?

Because we know that we will make a difference. We know that by raising funds and walking in a Making Strides Against Breast Cancer event, we will help to save lives and create a world with less breast cancer and more birthdays.

This year, Making Strides is more than a slogan – it's about supporting our fellow Rotarian, Rubi, and our community members, including a Town of Colchester employee, who are fighting cancer. Rubi is a member of our own Rotary Club, a mother of three young children, and a strong advocate for literacy and community service. Rubi and her family will lead our team, and we're inspired by her courage and determination. By our commitment to walk and raise funds, we will make a difference through this inspiring and powerful event.

Please help us to support Making Strides with a donation to our Colchester-Milton Rotary Club team.

We believe that it's truly important to let our communities know that Rotarians care. We strive to inspire others to act, to raise awareness of Rotary's mission, and to raise our voices in support of those facing cancer in our own community and throughout our Vermont communities.

The event also features a Basket Raffle with great gift items donated by local businesses and friends of Making Strides.

Due to the unprecedented flooding of the Colchester waterfront regions, the Colchester - Milton Rotary is organizing our entire community to assist with the clean up. For two days, we will remove debris from neighborhoods and beaches. We have engaged an assortment of professionals that will be on site with heavy equipment but this effort will require the hands of as many of our community members as possible. Join us for two days of helping our friends and neighbors as well as preserving our twenty-seven miles of shoreline.

Kym Duchesneau is looking for volunteers for the Milton Winter Carnival. They need help over the 3 day event as follows:

Friday night 6-8pm help serving hot cocoa and/or pizza,

setting up and tearing down tents

help folks with snow shoeing

Nuts for Literacy

The Literacy Committee was looking to promote literacy as well as incorporate a fund raising opportunity what they came up with was "Nuts for Literacy". The committee thought the slogan was a perfect fit for the glazed nuts that we were going to sell at the 2010 Apple Fest (but was the entire event was cancelled due to high water). The glazed nuts were prepared & packaged by Kiki leech and Michael Swaidner's design team came up with the logo and labels for our packaging. The committee made $280 at the Colchester Winter Fest and we will continue to sell the nuts which should generate a $500 profit when all are sold.

2nd Annual Move Your Can Fun Run (5K)

This fun run / walk will begin at Bayside Park on the bike path in Colchester, ending back at the park. All ages welcome. Run or walk. Proceeds will help Food shelves in Colchester, Milton, and The Islands, with a portion going to the Charitable fund of the Colchester-Milton Rotary Club.

HBO documentary The Final Inch at Burnaham Memorial Library

Interested in learning more about polio? On Wednesday, January 29 beginning at 6:30 p.m., the Burnham Memorial Library will host a showing of the HBO documentary The Final Inch, sponsored by the Rotary Club of Colchester-Milton; the film is about the efforts to eliminate polio worldwide. After the film, Dr. Alicia Jacobs, MD, will speak about polio and the importance of vaccines. Refreshments will be served.

Operation Polar Express #4

The Colchester-Milton Rotary Club will once again be supporting Our Military Families this Christmas Season with our project called Operation Polar Express #4. In our previous years, We have provided free Polar Express tickets for the children and the families of Our deployed soldiers here in Vermont. Polar Express has again reserved the noon train on December 15 for our Military Soldier family. Tickets are now $22 a piece And we have 235 slots to fill.

A Brand New Auction This Year!

A new location, a new time and a new look! We are revamping our annual auction this year to make it more exciting, fun and convenient for you to bid on those items that you really want.

This year’s Colchester-Milton Rotary Club Auction will be at 6:00 PM on November 16th at the Hampton Inn, Colchester. There will be food and beverages available and a new and improved list of items for you to bid on. Viewing will begin at 5:45 PM.

Colchester-Milton Rotary Club Sponsors a Grant to Help Fund a VYO Tour

The Colchester-Milton Rotary club sponsored a matching district grant to help fund the Vermont Youth Orchestra Tour of the Northeast Kingdom and master classes to be held at their home base at Elley Long in Colchester.

Rotary Donates $2,000 To The Vermont Youth Orchestra

On September 5, 2013 the Colchester-Milton Rotary Club and District Governor Stephen Dates present $2,000 to the Executive Director of the Vermont Youth Orchestra Association, Rosina Cannizzaro. The district matching grant will help support the VYO's tour of the Northeast Kingdom this Fall and master classes at Elley Long in Colchester.

We are pleased to announce that the Colchester – Milton Rotary Club is organizing a “Fun Run / Walk” event this summer. The event is a 5K (roughly 3 miles), and we are anticipating about 150 runners. The race will be family oriented and will start and finish at Bayside Park in Colchester. We have scheduled the race for Saturday June 1st, 2013. Registration is at 7:30am and the race begins at 8:30am.

Operation Polar Express

On Sunday December 12th, 230 family members of the Vermont Military services who are now serving overseas, will be enjoying a magical ride on the Burlington Polar Express. This special ride will bring some happiness to the families who have not seen their loved ones for up to a year and may not see them for this Christmas. This is a community service project of the Rotary Club of Colchester – Milton and is open to all Vermont Military family members who have a family member serving overseas.

Earl Wertheim, Past President and Public Relations Chair of the Colchester Milton Rotary Club and Leora Black, Community Services Chair read to the kids in the library of the school under the supervision of the librarian, Lynn Hebert.

On Saturday, February 6, 2010, the Colchester-Milton Rotary Club will sponsor a fund raising auction at 10 AM at the Colchester High School Cafeteria.

Viewing will be at 9AM at the Colchester High School on Saturday, February 6th.

Come and Join the FUN as celebrity auctioneers Steve Cormier from the Corm & the Coach radio show, veteran WCAX channel 3 reporter Brian Joyce and Charlie Papillo of the Charlie & Ernie show on WVMT compete for your bids on hundreds of items.

Comedy Night at The Hampton Inn!

The Hampton Inn of Colchester, VT is sponsoring a Comedy Night on December 17, 2009 at 7:30 p.m. as part of their Bonkerz comedy series. All proceeds will be donated to the Colchester Milton Rotary club to fund their community service activities and donations to the local and international community. Operation Holiday Homecoming

Barre, Vt - Senator Shumlin today, joined by Adjutant General Dubie, Lt. Governor Dubie and Speaker Smith spoke of the outpouring of support that Operation Holiday Homecoming has seen since it was launched almost two weeks ago. Operation Holiday Homecoming is an effort to bring our 700 National Guard members, stationed in Indiana, home for the holidays before they are deployed to Afghanistan.

Changes in Nov 19th Meeting Location

Due to an overload at the Hampton inn, our club will be meeting at the Pomerleau Alumni Center at St Michael's College next week. The Pomerleau Alumni Center is located on Route 15, but the entrance is on Lime Kiln Road.

We have Con Hogan coming to talk about health care in Vermont and Tom Raub is going to make a presentation to a Guardsman for our donations to Operation Holiday Homecoming. So, it is going to be a great meeting in which to invite potential members.

Only 5% of those eligible to donate blood in our country do so. When asked why they don't donate blood most Americans state that they have never been asked. You can no longer use that reason, as we are asking that you donate during our August blood drive.

Marilyn Cormier has supported scholarships for Colchester and Milton students, watched as Fourth of July flags are placed along Main Street in Colchester for the town's annual parade, and walked around town picking up trash for Colchester's annual Green Up Day festivities. Full Story

"GIVE A GALLON" Campaign Raises $3,500.00!

The Colchester Milton Rotary Club sponsored a local program called "Give a Gallon." They labeled one gallon cans and placed them in businesses around the area, asking for donations of $5.00 which was about the price of a gallon of fuel oil.

Holiday Food Basket project a Success!

The Colchester-Milton Rotary has delivered Holiday Food Baskets to over 100 families representing 420 people on Saturday morning, Dec. 13th. With the able assistance of the 3 Colchester Fire Department's trucks and their volunteers the delivery went smoothly. Thanks also to Dick Mazza for the use of his garage and his store's food assistance.

Rotary Donates to Friends Of Music

Members of the Colchester-Milton Rotary Club were on hand at the Colchester High School Holiday Band and Choral concert on December 11^th. Prior to the concert Mrs. Leora Black and two other Rotarians, presented Friends Of Colchester Music Chairwoman, Lynn Appleget a check for $750.00.
